The London Borough of Sutton is ambitious for its vulnerable children and families to have good and better outcomes from the services we provide. Sutton is a great place to live and work. I have been here since 2013 and absolutely love the work that we do.

The quality of our social work practice is continually improving and focusing on practice is at the heart of what we do. This is supported by by a system that enables practice to continually develop. Key aspects of the system include:

  • Reducing social work caseloads that enables social workers to know their children well

  • Creating an environment where social workers want to work in LB of Sutton with reduced vacancy and turnover rates

  • Intervening early so that families have the right support at the right time, by investing in our targeted early help offer; leading to a reduction in child protection plans; reduction in care proceedings; stabilizing of children in care numbers

  • Supporting adolescents stay with their families during challenging times and managing risk by providing targeted youth support and other interventions such as Multi Systemic Therapy; resulting in a reduction of residential use

  • A strong and visible leadership team that is closely linked to front line practice, through practice conversations and other activities such as Practice Learning week.

  • An established effective partnership which provides robust scrutiny, challenge and support through the Local Safeguarding Children Partnership

  • A sustainable model of restorative practice that is being rolled out to the workforce that includes support from psychologists who are integrated within teams, group supervision and reflective practice.

Social workers tell us they enjoy working for Sutton. Read some of the testimonies to see what it is really like...
